BRIEF

Dim Sum Pop is an app targeting non-Chinese people who would like to try out Chinese dim sum. However, they are not familiar with this culture which has more than 100 varieties of dishes. This app is designed to be an eating guide for the audience to understand more about each dish. It also has a feature of helping the customer to pair up the best order list of dim sum.

There are over 100 kinds of the traditional dim sum in Chinese culture. This is excluding nowadays fusion dim sum inspired Western culture. Dim sum is one of the weekend dining rituals with friends and family. It includes various types of food, like dumplings, buns, rolled dishes, vegetable dishes, meat based dishes, desserts, etc. It contains a range of ingredients and different cooking methods.

More and more western people are attracted by this wide range of small plated dishes. (55,000 are sold annually at State Bird Provisions in San Francisco.) The Dim Sum community is expanding throughout the world. The wide range of dim sum food always brings problems to people who are not a Chinese native speaker:

• What ingredients are in it?

• What is the name?

• How to pronounce it?

• How to eat it? Do I have to unwrap before eating?

• Is it suppose to be served cold or hot?

• Is it spicy? sweet? Or savory?
